DeepSeek’s Bold Move into the AI Assistant Marketplace

As you might know, the NASDAQ crashed upon the announcement of performance test results from a new AI LLM/chatbot service called Deepseek. Nvidia was down $1 trillion in market cap at one point!

This AI-powered assistant (DeepSeek V3 powered by DeepThink R1) is competing with OpenAI and ChatGPT for leadership in Generative AI.  The threat of DeepSeek, is that offers a much more affordable LLM AI platform for developers to create their AI software — from viewing the DeepThink reasoning process, to lower licensing and cloud costs to reduced electric power consumed. The value proposition is notable.  OpenAI’s Sam Altman admitted that OpenAI’s leadership has been eroded, and that Microsoft is trying to integrat DeepSeek into it’s AI Copilot search assistant.

On the other hand, OpenAI, Google and Microsoft offer expensive, proprietary solutions. There was no concern about competition from a competitor. It never crossed their mind.  The entire US technology sector is heavily influenced by billion dollar investments in infrastructure, microprocessors and massive LLM’s for large scale solutions.  DeepSeek has undercut everything and threatens to swipe the entire market from those US monopolies.

President Trump met with Nvidia’s CEO/founder Jensen Huang. Trump said the meeting went well. But how could it? If DeepSeek is legitimate, Trump might not be able to put them out of business or the AI cat back in the bag.

DeepSeek’s the Talk of the Tech World

Not much is known about the Chinese company, its software, computing system or whether it’s fake. Although tests aren’t conclusive, many industry experts seem to be suggesting the company’s more affordable LLM platform could become a new global provider of AI to the world’s businesses.

The performance of DeepSeek’s AI software was so surprising that AI investment analysts believe it genuinely a major threat to OpenAI, or as Marc Andreesen puts it “a profound gift to the world!”   You’ll be hearing much more about DeepSeek in the coming weeks as experts sort out its true place in the AI LLM chatbot marketplace up against Microsoft Pilot, ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Yes, Internet legend Marc Andreessen is giving it the thumbs up.

What is DeepSeek?

DeepSeek is a privately owned Chinese company founded in July 2023 by Liang Wenfeng, a graduate of Zhejiang University.

The company now provides AI-powered tools and services to help businesses and individuals solve complex problems, automate tasks, and make smarter decisions. You can view it as a smart assistant that uses artificial intelligence to analyze data, understand language, and even create content.

Its arrival on the major AI software scene in the US was unexpected given the Biden regime banned the sale of Nvidia’s top chipsets to China. It was believed the US would dominate AI software and Nvidia and other chipmakers would benefit from this regulation. DeepSeek appears to be a response to Biden’s effort to prevent China from developing AI for military purposes and from being a predatory on the US economy. The regulation seems to have forced the Chinese to innovate and come with a better AI software that can work on slower less powerful AI microchips.

The meteoric success of DeepSeek means China will support with trillions of investment to become a genuine threat. However, it remains to be seen what security threat the Chinese firm represents and whether spying can be conducted via DeepSeek. Trump could ban it and likely will have to. But it might be too late. It’s not DeepSeek — it’s the fact something better and more affordable and efficient exists.

How Does DeepSeek Fit Into the Top AI Services?

Today, OpenAI (ChatGPT), Google (Bard), Microsoft (Copilot), Anthropic (Claude), Meta (AI tools), and Amazon (AWS AI services) occupy the AI assistant market.  These solutions are being used in travel software, real estate software, educational software and SaaS business services.

DeepSeek fits into this elite group of AI assistant software as a competitive alternative that offers similar AI capabilities but with some unique advantages:
