One of the top touring spots is the Freedom Trail, which history buffs, in particular, will revel in as 16 significant sites related to the American Revolution are on it. Boston does appeal to the older traveler, particularly because it’s an essential part of the New England travel experience. The many venues and attractions appeal to travelers of a sophisticated, educated or erudite taste.

The Seaport District is a special neighborhood right on the Boston Harbor housing almost 80 restaurants, 8 hotels, and a convention center.

Boston may be a high-priced city to visit, yet there are many affordable tours including whale watching, river sightseeing, day sailing, tall ships in the harbor, trolleys, and food tours that will fill your days, and likely leave you feeling you understand what inspired the building of America, the nation. A visit to the New England Aquarium is a delight you shouldn’t miss.

Fenway Park, America’s oldest major league baseball stadium is the most revered in the nation, retaining much of its storied charm, yet still exciting to watch a Boston Red Sox game. I’ve been to two Red Sox games. One on opening day was a wonderful experience as they honored the nation with quite a ceremony.

Enjoy the best of Fine Art at the MFA. The museum hosts compelling art exhibits from Ancient Egyptian to art of the Americas to highly controversial selections.

There’s no better time to experience Boston than July 4th, Independence Day, when the spirit of Boston makes the most sense. Although, the fall season with its color extravaganza and lower prices might be ideal for the 60+ senior crowd.

With so much to see, you’ll want to consult with your travel agency, or choose credible authentic multiday tours of Boston with those on your favorite tour marketplaces.

Food Connoisseurs Delights

For cuisine explorers, Boston’s many world-class restaurants will help you sample the region’s famous fare including clam chowder Boston style, oysters, lobster and many other kinds of seafood. Try some scrod, Yankee pot roast, and some cannolis too. Don’t forget the Boston cream pie.

If you’d like to savor full-on Boston food, check out Off the Hook, located at the north end of Hough’s neck on the waterfront. From burgers to flounder and scallops, you can pick to your heart’s delight.

And if you love beer, there might not be a better place on earth to enjoy a brew with some many local breweries to choose from. At the Seaport District, a must-see, you’ll find the Harpoon Brewery where you can enjoy beer samplers and pretzels. Slow down and take a tour of the brewery.

Check out the Union Oyster House, built in 1826, which is America’s Oldest Restaurant right on the Freedom Trail, a highly recommended walk.
