San Diego County: An Urban/Recreation Adventurer’s Paradise from Golden Beaches to the City
San Diego County is more than just a destination—it’s a stimulating, unfiltered mix of experiences that weaves together natural wonder, action adventure and urban cool.
It’s not trite to say San Diego won’t bring transformation, as it certainly did for me. From the moment you arrive at San Diego International, feel the sea breezes and see the palm trees, to your first step on the beach, you’ll know your “usual self” may not fit here. You’ll be upgrading to a view of what life should be like. It’s something to get excited about.
San Diego missed the top US Xmas holiday destination list, but with the political/immigration changes taking place, SD is ready to become itself again, and welcome visitors to a safe and pleasant time. I’ve seen it before. When the economy booms, San Diego becomes the top US destination. It has a prosperous, comfortable, enjoyment lifestyle — the one we all dream about.
Summer Beach Culture and Miles of California Views, Activities, and Pure Enjoyment
San Diego might be the epitome of the California experience that Americans, Canadians and Brits love so much. When you see the surf shops, golden beaches, cool restaurants, ocean vistas, all-day sunshine with room temperature climate year round along with awesome sunsets, you’ll feel like you’re in one of those Franky Avalon movies of the 60’s.
I grew up watching that on TV and I think even Gen Z’s will feel the surfer vibe along the Pacific Coast Highway towns. San Diego County stretches from the electric Pacific coastline of Mission Beach and Oceanside Beach to the rugged inland landscapes of San Pasquale Valley and the Salton Sea near the Mexican border, this region is a non-stop playground for travelers who live for the next epic outdoor moment.
And the Mexican food and art are an attraction that makes it unique.
For the 20 to 50 active crowd, a compelling mix of mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, surfing, beach walking, tennis, golf, and walking means a healthy vacation. And you won’t be wanting for dining, shopping and entertainment in the evenings either. It’s one of the most compelling, rich Travel USA vacations.
If you love to drive, you’ll have 4 amazing trips along with coast, up to Mount Palomar, or eastward to Palm Springs to experience heat in the desert. They’re all epic, bucket-list driving trips.
SD is ready for tourists of every kind and there’s so much to experience.
I’ve had this adventure many times and I still haven’t experienced all it can offer. Playing tennis in Carlsbad, riding my bike along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway down through 30 miles through spectacular La Jolla to the Seaport Village were relaxing and invigorating, giving you a good sense of the So Cal lifestyle. Enjoy a seafood meal at the Edgewater Grill right on the water with great views.
I must say that walks on the Ocean Front shop at Seaport Village over to the Embarcadero and the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier was an interesting time. Renting a VRBO house on Mission Beach was epic for its 60’s surfer vibe, with a theme park with a surfing wave machine and wooden roller coaster, and some cool restaurants to enjoy right along the walkway.
One single experience captivated me most on a warm So Cal evening was driving in Del Mar (north of San Diego) westward toward the coast along Del Mar Heights Blvd down the hill to the ocean. Suddenly, on the crest of the hill, it seemed like I was driving downward into a vast silvery, shimmering ocean scene with a bright golden sun above it setting in the Pacific Ocean horizon. Completel visual and enjoyable. And the sounds of the crashing waves from my condo in Oceanside and a glass of wine to enjoy it with after a day of cycling is still etched in my memory. This will happen to you too on your next trip to San Diego, CA.
