From San Diego up to San Fran, they’re all into…
Dan, I finally got to the Durham Forest trails! I had the place all to myself really. Only 4 other mountain bikers and 5 hikers passed by. The sunshine filtering through the tall trees, the smell of pine and other forest plants adds to the fresh experience.
I’ve got another rider’s Youtube video at bottom. When I get my GoPro camera, I’ll create my own video! Dan Wigmore produced some good home grown videos a while back, some of which were in the Durham Forest with the Ride It Out gang. And he has plenty of stories to tell about those adventures.
Take a look at this video and you’ll see some of the fun they had. I like the music in the Musselman’s lake video. It’s by Danny Michel. Typical music and lyrics from skiing and mountain bikes vidoes. Hard to describe, but if you’ve been in the mountains for any time at all, you’ll understand the allure of this type of music.
Take a look at the excellent artwork on Danny Michel’s homepage. Mountain bikers have a real culture and they’re a lot more fun than road racers. Hey Sean, if you see this, I’m not sayin anything. Just sayin.
The trails in the Durham Forest and are maintained by the Durham Mountain Biking Association. There are hiking trails here too. The forest is just south of Uxbridge. It is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Mountain Biking is Fun
It is a nice ride and if you’ve never tried mountain biking, these trails are perfect to start. More women are mountain biking and there was one very overweight middle aged woman and her young daughter there so yes anyone can go mountain biking.
Mountain biking is a lot of fun. Honestly, I can’t think of any sport that is more fun. There is challenge, fear, exhilaration, and accomplishment. And these trails are fairly easy so for first timers, this is a great experience.
These pics below don’t quite show how nice it is. The forest is huge, has plenty of 100 foot high pines, lots of undulating hills and winding trails to ride.
